ID card backlog frustrates residents

Residents of Marsabit County have decried a huge backlog in the processing of national identity cards, with some saying they have waited for over a year without receiving their documents.

The lack of an ID card has locked out many young people from accessing critical services, including opening bank accounts, registering for government programmes and seeking formal employment.

Area leaders have petitioned the national registration bureau to deploy additional mobile registration units to clear the backlog.
